Emotions

How many of us don’t want to feel emotions: those uncomfortable feelings washing over us at random times catching us off guard. We deny their existence, suppress them, hide them, begrudge & resent them, push them away. I did this for such a long time.

Now I’m learning emotions are meant for feeling,
for holding, like a hurt child,
for sitting with them, talking to them, like you would to a friend.
Allowing them,
making space for them,
learning that befriending them actually makes them pass quicker.

They have a story to tell.
If we don’t listen they gather in places in our body:
first as uncomfortable feelings, and if unaddressed maybe as pain.
Deep breath.
Don’t let the waves of emotions drown you, but rather
let them pass,
listen, talk to them, they have a message, specifically for you.
What are you trying to hold on to?

Relax your whole body, supine, in line with the water, floating.
Let the waves wash over you.
All they want is to be felt.
Deeply.

Freedom will follow.
